Del Dios sits on the shore of Lake Hodges, northwest of us, and it is a scenic run of about twenty minutes out along Del Dios Highway. From 12155 Flint Pl we head up and over toward the lake, into a pocket of custom and semi-rural homes that feels a world away from the tract neighborhoods closer in.

Del Dios is different, and its HVAC needs are too. This is lakeside living — estates and custom homes scattered along the hills above Lake Hodges, wrapped in mature trees, with the water sitting right there at the bottom of the valley.

That setting is beautiful and it is also a specific set of conditions for a cooling system. The lake adds humidity that most inland San Diego homes never deal with, and the tree cover changes both the shade load and what ends up clogging a condenser.

In September 2025 we serviced a custom home on a wooded lot off Del Dios Highway where the outdoor condenser was running hot and short-cycling. The coil was packed with leaf debris and the unit was fighting the extra humidity off the lake. We cleaned and cleared it, corrected a low refrigerant charge, and set the owner up on a maintenance schedule so the tree litter would not choke it again next season.
