Same-day service in Poway & Sabre Springs — 24/7 emergency dispatch countywide.
Licensed & Insured · CA CSLB C-20 LicenseAn AC that runs but blows warm or room-temperature air is one of the most common calls we get in Poway, and the good news is most causes are quick to diagnose and fix. Before you call, check two things: is the thermostat set to cool and below room temperature, and is the filter clean? A badly loaded filter alone can choke cooling.
If those look fine, the usual culprits are a failed capacitor stopping the compressor or fan, a dirty condenser coil that has lost capacity, a refrigerant leak, or a frozen indoor coil. Each has a clear diagnosis — and a clear price.
Call in the morning if you can. Poway heat peaks in the afternoon, and getting us out before then means we fix it before the house bakes. We stock the common parts for same-day repair on most homes.

Why your AC is not cooling
Dirty or clogged air filter
The easiest fix. A filter loaded during Santa Ana season chokes airflow and can freeze the coil. Check and replace it first.
Failed run capacitor
If the outdoor fan or compressor will not start, a dead capacitor is the most likely and most affordable cause.
Dirty condenser coil
Dust caked on the outdoor coil after a Poway summer cuts heat rejection, so the system runs but barely cools.
Low refrigerant from a leak
Weak cooling and possible ice on the lines point to a leak that needs finding and repair, not just a top-off.
Frozen evaporator coil
Ice on the indoor coil — from low airflow or low charge — blocks cooling. It must thaw before diagnosis.
Thermostat or wiring fault
Sometimes the system is fine and the thermostat or a control wire is the problem — inexpensive to fix once found.
Our process
- 1
Quick phone triage
We walk you through the thermostat and filter check on the call — sometimes that alone gets you cooling again.
- 2
Same-day measured diagnosis
On site we check capacitor, charge, airflow, coil condition and temperature split to pinpoint the exact cause.
- 3
Line-item quote and repair
You approve a written price, and we repair common failures on the spot with truck-stocked parts.
- 4
Confirm the fix
We verify the temperature split is back in spec so you know it is genuinely fixed, not temporarily nudged.
Try this before you call
Two quick checks solve a surprising number of no-cooling calls. First, confirm the thermostat is set to COOL and a few degrees below the current room temperature, with fresh batteries if it is battery-powered. Second, pull the air filter — if it is gray with dust, replace it and give the system time to recover. Poway's dusty air loads filters fast, especially during Santa Ana events.
If the outdoor unit's fan is not spinning, or you see ice on the copper lines, stop and call us — running it will not help and can cause damage. Do not open sealed panels or attempt refrigerant work; that requires EPA-certified handling and the right gauges.

What affects the cost
Because "not cooling" spans everything from a $0 thermostat setting to a refrigerant leak, cost varies. Most repairs land in the $129–$1,200 range. What drives it:
The actual cause
A capacitor or filter is cheap; a compressor or coil leak is not. Diagnosis tells you which before you spend.
Refrigerant involvement
A leak repair and recharge costs more than an electrical or airflow fix.
Whether the coil froze
A frozen coil needs thaw time before we can properly diagnose the underlying airflow or charge issue.
System age
On older units we give you the honest repair-or-replace math rather than chasing repeated warm-air calls.
No surprise pricing. Every job gets a written, line-item quote you approve before work begins. Prices above are honest ranges, not promises — your exact number depends on your equipment and home.
